Knorr Chicken Bouillon

This is one product I always have on hand in my kitchen. I've searched many stores to find gluten-free bouillon, as it's an item I use often. I found one, but at a specialty store that I don't frequent. Then I stumbled across this at my local grocer. It was in the wierdest of places, the ethnic aisle amongst the hispanic foods. Sometimes they put it with the other soups, but not all the time. It also comes in powdered form in a jar, which I find handy to season stir-fry with.
It's cheap, easily accessible, and gluten-free, hence an awesome product. Use it to make chicken broth, 1 bouillon cube to 2 cups water.
They have a website www.us.knorr.com that shows the other products made by Unilever Bestfoods. I called their phone number, 1-866-KNORR01, and was told that while they can't guarantee that a product will always be gluten-free, if a product has gluten in it, the package will list it on the label. It will also list any of the other top 7 allergens as well.

Thank you so much for the bouillon posting. This is an answer to prayer. I always shop in the Spanish aisle, who knew I only had to switch brands. Awesome!

YAY! I always used Knorr chicken bouillon so am glad it is one less thing I need to give up or change. Cook rice or gluten free pasta with this added to the water it's delish!

Thank you for the info. Just discovered I am gluten intolerant. Although I feel fairly knowledgeable about nutrition and gluten sources, it is a lot easier when someone steers you right to the gluten free products.

I own a restaurant in San Diego and have been trying to come up with a gluten free menu for my customers. I ran across several sites that list the Knorr Chicken Bouillon as gluten free but needed to make sure so I contacted the Knorr consumer services department to make sure that this product is indeed gluten free.

I got a response today that it is NOT gluten free as it contains Barley gluten that comes from the yeast extract.

These products are NOT gluten free. Per Knorr, most of their products contain gluten ingredients and cannot be considered gluten free...

I had been recommending Knorr brand bouillon as well, but just found the label now says "barley" on it. Thought I'd pass the info along to help warn people.

I am here to vouch that Knorrs Chicken Bouillon is NO LONGER GF! Barley for some odd reason is a new ingredient added on. It really sucks as it used to be so good to add on to foods that needed the flavoring.

I came to realization about 6 was ago that I am gluten intolerant. So I went GF. What a difference. The adjustment has been tricky but learning alot of different ways to eat. Tomorrow I am having a kidney CT so I have to be on clear liquids for 24 hrs. Had 2 cups of knorr's chicken bouillon earlier. God, I wanna die. I am so sick. I found out about the soup too late. Does anyone one that is safe?

Their formula changed since this blog post was made. Herb-Ox does not contain gluten and would be safe, so look for Hormel branded Herb-Ox bouillon. They've also published a gluten free product list which is wonderful: http://www.hormelfoods.com/brands/glutenfree/default.aspx

I used to get Orrington Farms Chicken Base at my Sentry store.(actually labeled GF) TO my dismay I went there yesterday and found that they has switched to Jameson's brand with is NOT GF!
I went to another store and picked up the KNORR in the Mexican section. The box with cubes doesnt state the barley from yeast but the granulated form does...I guess a call is in order....

It's my understanding that Better Than Bouillon is GF. Little pricy but tastes good!

I use this mostly for Charro bean seasoning, but another favorite of mine is adding it into the water for rice along with cubed chicken, corn, cilantro, butter, and garlic salt... it makes a great dinner that goes a long way. I'd recommend adding extra water though... the bouillon doesn't quite get along with rice on it's own. lol

This post is outdated - as of 2013, Knorr Bouillion DOES contain gluten. Also, not all of the Better than Bouillion flavors are gluten free. The good news is they do let the consumer know where the ingredients come from.

As of 2013, Herb-Ox is still gluten free.

There are other gluten-free bouillions that you can get from specialty stores as well as the gluten free mall (www.celiac.com/glutenfreemall).

It is ALWAYS important to check labels every time you buy a product as the formulas do chamge. What a shame, tossing my Knorr Swiss bouillon cubes.

I have a knorr chicken boulion cubes and right in the ingredients is wheat flour :-( its an 8 pack. I will try looking for this exact packaging

The knorr contains an yeast extract that I made from barley ...their is a misprint in the label on all of the chicken bullion products ...if you look at the label on the beef there is additional info after this ingredient explaining that it's made from barley.

I know this is an old post, but you still might get people visiting. Another brand that isn't expensive, but still tasty is aurora chicken bouillon mix.
