Gluten Free Canned Cream of Mushroom Soup

Canned Organic Gluten Free Cream of Mushroom Soup
I was utterly astounded when I discovered this in my local grocery store. I checked the label many times, and couldn't find any gluten. To make certain, I emailed the question over. They sent me back an email with a phone number, which I called to ask, just in case it had hidden gluten. The rep from Health Valley assured me that there was no gluten in this product(however they make items in the facility that do contain gluten, but they sterilize before and after everything.) I was sold.
They also make a canned cream of chicken soup that is gluten free. They call them semi-condensed, meaning it doesn't come out of the can in a can-shape like the regular stuff does, but is still pretty thick. I am in heaven. Not having to make my own creamed soups is the best news I've heard this year. Tell your friends. Tell everyone you know so that this product will stay with us. It's 2.49 a can at my store, but you can buy it online here as well for $30.67 a case, however the shipping is rather pricey ($16.87 to get a case delivered to my zip, plus a $2.50 handling fee). I think it is so worth it if a store near you doesn't sell it. To find a store locator, click here, but they don't have this product in the pull down menu. I would just call to find out.
Buy a case or two. I mean it.

***I just realized that this can is 14.5 oz, while a standard gluten filled is 10.5 oz. I had no trouble with the stroganoff, but a casserole might be different. Either don't use the entire can, or use less liquid elsewhere. Let me know how your recipes work out.

I am not celiac, but really enjoy your recipes. I use these soups all the time. I just wanted to add that they also have a Cream of Celery soup as well. I don't know if it is gluten-free or not, but I am glad to have found a replacement for the condensed cream soups I used to use. Hope this helps.

Hooray! Making your own cream soup mix is a pain, and this will be great!

Kristi-I saw the cream of celery as well. How awesome is it that these products are available? I love them! Thanks for checking us out, even if you are one of the lucky ones (celiac, that is;)
Paige-I hear ya! I wanted to reach through the phone and hug the lady on the customer service line. She is my new most favorite person.
Some of my recipes will be thanking me for not putting them through the homemade mix. It just isn't the same sometimes.

I am not celiac, but I too enjoy your blog and recipes since discovering it a few days ago. I am sensitive to most grains except buckwheat and barley, although I do eat others occasionally. I will definitely be looking for this product and your recipe sounds awesome. Thanks for sharing . . .

My 14 year old daughter was just diagnosed with Celiac & I am extremely overwhelmed! Can someone tell me the best type of replacement flour to use in recipes as well as a brand that is preferable. I would be grateful!

Better late than never -- I just found this post before going grocery shopping. My 10 year old is gluten-intolerant (by my own diagnosis, no thanks to the doctors!) and I have recipes calling for Cream of _____ soup that have gone to the back of the book as of late. Not anymore, I'm making roast with creamy gravy tomorrow... THANKS!

I'm so thrilled to find a GF option for canned cream soup!! For the poster who asked about flours, there are flour/baking mixes (such as Pam's, GFMama, Beth's, Bob's) which are handy [my fave b/c I'm not a from scratch type of cook]. For simple thickening, there is always corn starch. In time, you'll be amazed at all the GF flours+starches available (chickpea, rice, almond, potato starches, tapioca). Hope this helps!

I am so excited about this soup. I have missed my asparagus, english pea and water chestnut casserole for 12 years because I could not duplicate the cream of mushroom soup very well. I also have a chicken and noodle casserole that calls for cream of chicken soup. I am going to prepare that for dinner tomorrow night. This is a wonderful thing for all us gluten intolerant people. Thanks a thousand times. Allieree

Boy, I guess I'm one in a million on this subject. I dislike all the Health Valley creamed soups, primarily because of their heavy-handed garlicky taste profile (though I am open to the fact that this may be a POSITIVE to others, just not my thing) -- and I also do not find them to be truly "creamy."

I find that I like, much more, Progresso Creamy Mushroom soup (yes, is GF). While not billed as "semi-condensed" (but rather "ready to serve), I think the Progresso is much creamier in that traditional "Campbell's" way, which is what I really miss.

However, that said, it seems almost impossible to find Progresso Creamy Mushroom soup anymore! You'd almost think they were no longer making it, but it is still on the website, and available by the case from amazon.com.

With either soup (Progresso or Health Valley), if I'm using in a casserole to replace Campbell's condensed type ... I also find that I benefit from adding a tablespoon of some kind of starch, such as potato or corn. Just to give a little bit more thickness, since neither is as condensed as the Campbell's.

Just passing my own experience along, in case anyone else out there has the same flavor reaction to the Health Valley soups that I do.

I have used these soups in casseroles and other recipes, they are definitely a different constancy than Campbell soups but I found that if I add some sour cream and a little extra thickening it works great.

HURRAY! You have no idea how much easier my stab at menu planning/general sanity around food just became... Ah, so many, many crock pot recipes are actually viable options.....

Might want to try Amy's organic cream of mushroom soup...it's also gluten free and if not in your stores is available on Amazon.

Amys cream of mushroom soup is NOT gluten free according to the Amy's website...you might want to check it out...

I have waited ten years for a GF cream of mushroom soup -- and am cautiously excited! Yet I see that this soup (Health Valley Organic Cream of Mushroom) contains soy sauce....which is not typically gluten free. Any thoughts?

Sorry! This soup is no longer gluten free. I called the company and the rep said it isn't.

I called them too and they directed me to www.glutenfreechoices.com which lists all the gluten free products their umbrella company makes. Sad to say, the Healthy Valley brand is not on the site so if you're super sensitive, you might want to pass.

I have found this at Krogers in North Carolina and Texas. I was so excited!!! If you call the CS # on the can and tell them how much you enjoy and appreciate this product they will send you coupons.

I am planning foods to take to our family Thanksgiving dinner in two weeks. My sister has a mild case of celiac, and is always missing out on all the dishes because of the cream soups. I decided that I wanted to make one of them gluten free this year. I did a search and found your blog. I searched for locations close by that carry this and there are several within a 5 mile radius of me! So excited, and I know that my sister will be ecstatic too! Thanks so much for doing all the research and willingly sharing it with everyone!
